Nailing a 4x4 into Flat concrete? Any ideas?

I want to make a carport on the side and we already have a concrete slab. How can I place the 4x4's is there a plate that I could put the whole load of the roof and still hold it?Nailing a 4x4 into Flat concrete? Any ideas?
it's called a post base. best application would require you to drill a hole, epoxy in threaded rod and mount base.

to nail into concrete you would use masonry nails and a .22 caliber nail gun. these use .22 Cal shells to fire the nail through the wood and into the concrete. but you probably won't find any nails that will be long enough to go through the 4x4 and reach into the concrete. so i would suggest nailing down a 2x4 and then nailing another 2x4 on top of that to create your sill. use presure treated lumber for your sill, and put construction adhesive (liquid nails) between the 2x4 and slab, and between each 2x4.

you could also use lagbolts and bolt the 4x4 down to the slab. they make those much longer than nails. this would require drilling holes in the concrete.
