Any ideas on how to make my rottweiler let me hold her paw so i can trim her nails?

my rottweiler is about 2 years old but doesnt like her paws being touched. any ideas on how i can make her stop biting my hand when i hold or pick up her paws?Any ideas on how to make my rottweiler let me hold her paw so i can trim her nails?
First just hold her paw and maybe give her a treat tell her good girl when she gets use to that show her the nail clippers and give her a treat if shes scared show her a few times then rub them on her paw and see how she reacts. then try clipping one toe nail and rewarding her if shes good it may take some time but you have to earn her trust. This helped me when i use to groom dogs good luckAny ideas on how to make my rottweiler let me hold her paw so i can trim her nails?
My mom can't cut mine she takes me to the groomer. Nail trims only cost $5 to $15 dollars depending where we go.

Walks on side walks and rodes {when it is cool} helps keep my nails short.
have sombody hold food in front of it's face. so it will stare at the food and you quickly cut the nails. it worked for me! good luck
I wish I could help and will be looking back at this question to read some of the answers. I just got back from having my German Shepherds nails cut ,he won't let me near them :))
First of all you need to be sure you know how to clip them without injuring him especially is they are long. Have your Vet show you how far to safely trim them. Distraction works best for us. We lay our boy down, then my husband gets nose to nose with him pets and talks to him and I sneak a clip.
maybe you can do it while she is asleep it works for me with my pitbulls
Go to a vet or someone like that.
keep playing with her paws she thinks every time you touch her feet your going to clip her nails play with her paws as much as you can and when she don't bit give her treats save special treats for when you clip her nails that way your showing her that her nails are not always going to get clipped and its a good thing when they do cuz she has that special treat
It's an individual thing (i've heard a lot about it being breed-specific, yet I've exclusively owned Rottweilers for 20 years and they always offer me their paws--even other peoples' pooches). She's two, that's a big factor. When she's 8 yrs old, no prob. There are other risks though!-- their nails are really hard, and black, these are extenuating factors.

My strong advice is to avoid trimming with clippers (if you cut to the quick she will not forget it!-- it's very strong negative reinforcement) and if you insist, get a Styptic Pencil from your drugstore and keep it handy BEFORE you start. The best way to trim them is to take her somewhere on concrete (blacktop is too coarse and hot on the paw pads in summer sunshine) and throw a ball (I always use a basketball or soccer ball) and make her change direction a lot (pivot, just like in basketball), romp around and frolic. Or at night, make her chase a laser dot. It's easier on the both of you. You really should gain some expertise before you attempt the clipping, mastiff-size dogs have unusually hard nails.
Your dog should NEVER be allowed to put it's teeth on you. Muzzle the dog, reassure the dog that you are not going to hurt her, have her lay down pet her, when she is calm, reach for the paw. You might have to tie her to an immovable object, so she can't spin around at you, talk quietly and tell her ';foot';, then hold it and let go, work your way up to touching between the toes. Keep the muzzle on the dog, and when you see that she is getting ready to come near you with her mouth, tell her ';no';, ';lay down';, and gently push her head away. Then pet her on the head, face, etc. and go back to stroking her shoulder working down the leg to the paw. With the desensitizing, she will eventually get to the point where you can take off the muzzle. The muzzle is there for your protection, it is not cruel. If you happen to get bit and have to get stitiches, the animal control/a part of the police dept. will come to your house and record the bite record. Depending where you live, they may take the dog from you, especially if it happens more than once.....So, if you don't want that happening, muzzle the dog - FIRST.
i would teach her to give paw. also i would make sure to reward her for all the good behavior she's doung, when your pup is calm and laying down, iwould start to petting her entire body. basically giving her a doggie massage. this will really help with getting her use to you handling her.
well if she is going to nip at you when you do this...you should put a muzzle on her only when you do this to teach her that it s not ok to nip and bite at you! now most dogs do not liek getting this done! but the more and more you do it the more and mroe they will get use to it and stop putting up so much of a fightbecause they just eventually will be so use to doing it it wont bother them...if its realy to hard for you to get it dont because she is so big..take her to the vet or to a groomer and they will be more than happy to do it for you. no matter what thought th emore you keep on top of it and keep doing it the better she will behave in doing it.
I have the same problem with my Rott. I usually clip his nails when i give him a bath. I always tie him in the tub, cuz noone likes a soapy dog running around the house. Then after i rinse him i go for the nails if they have to be done. Thats the only time he lets me even touch his feet.
Yup, get her used to touching them. Play games with her where you touch her.. When she is sleeping, pet her and slowly touch her paws.. Get her used to them being touched in other situations than just having her nails done. This should have been started when she was tiny, getting her used to being touched all over the place then this wouldn't even be an issue.
Just gradually feel around and touch her paws everyday and reward her with treats when she lets you touch them. Gradually she will let you touch them longer and longer and soon trim them.
First let her smell the clippers so it's not strange and foreign to her. Also touch her paws everyday whenever you can and when she lets you, give her a treat so she associates it with a good thing.
hold a treat in your hand and give it to her when she licks or sniffs your hand. This will teach her not to bite. If she does, ignore her 4 awhile and try again, Good Luck!!!
How about not doing all of her nails at once?

Do a couple and then break it off and come back later. It may be a couple of days before you are able to do all of her nails. The more she becomes aware of the fact that it isn't a big deal, the more she'll accept you doing this.
hmmm.. i currently have 2 female rottweiler.. when i give them a general cleaning, i usually tame them first and play with them.. those big dogs are really cool=) love them.. a tip is that you always play with them, touch them including their paws. and before all, let them smell your hands first... =) these dogs are aggressive.=)

also, if you have no time, let the dog parlor do it=)

enjoy and good luck=)
