Sally Beauty Supply usually has a host of unusual colors, most of which can be found for about $5 or less.
I always love the double French manicure--paint your nail one color and then tip it with something else that contrasts, like red and black or black and white . . . it's been done to death, I know, but it's usually good for a couple comments.
I've also written letters on my nails in the past to spell out words. I used a toothpick dipped in nail polish to form the letter legibly.
Sally Beauty Supply also sells lots of decals and rhinestones and stuff for more nail decoration. You really ought to go there--they supply salons so they usually have a huge selection of just about anything you want for nail decoration or health.
i put hot pink tips (like a french tip but thicker) then rainbow sparkly nail polish under it.
or u could do different colored tips on every finger in like bright colors

first paint your nails black.. then take blue, pink, purple, and green and paint polka dots all over.. it looks reely cool ive tried it before
you could check walmart. they have some really funky stuff. i would try doing a web browser search for funky nail polish ideas :)
You could paint a shotting star, or paint the tips dark like a reverse french manicure.
