I'm going to be a new nail technichinian. Need promotional ideas for first week please?

I'm going to be starting as a new nail technician this next week and would like to run some sort of promotion to help with getting clients in. I do gel nails along with pedicures and manicures. Any ideas would be great!I'm going to be a new nail technichinian. Need promotional ideas for first week please?
It really depends. Are you going to be opening your own salon, working out of your home, booth renting, or will you be an employee. If you are an employee, then your ability to offer specials is limited by the owner (your employer). They set the price for variuos services, they choose the products, and so on. On the other hand, if you are a booth renter, work out of you home, or you own the salon, then its up to you to decide how to run things.

There are a lot of things you can do. But, just starting out don't expect to 'fill' your book too quickly. It takes time, and a lot of patience to do that. You will have to pay your dues first, like most of us do. Make sure you are at the top of your game (you won't be at first, but work on it), stay current by taking classes, use the best products, and take pride in your work, and do the best work that you possibly can, each and every time. The rest should be fairly easy if you do all of these things.

But yes, you can do things to help promote yourself. Just don't be TOO generous with things. For example, make any special offers a limited time only thing. But specify that right off the bat. Offer, say, $5 off your next service for any referrals. Offer some money off of fills, if they purchase maybe 4 or 5 in advance -like pay for 4 fills now, and get the fifth for free. But, just be careful of being too generous because there are so many people out there who will come to you just to get the really cheap nail service, and then you will never see them again. Your bread %26amp; butter is provided by repeat clients.

Since the majority of work seems to come from fills, and backfills, then make sure that you do an extra special job on the full set, if you do one. Because if you don't do a good job on the full set, its doubtful that client will be back for a fill!

Also, get business cards. Make sure they are professional looking. Clear, consise, and not too frilly, but still nice looking. Then, make it a point to hand out cards to a predetermined number of women each and every day, whether that number is 10, or 25, or 50 - it doesn't matter. What does matter is that you approach each and every person with a good attutude, be upbeat, SMILE, and introduce yourself while handing them a business card. It doesn't have to be a big speech, just a quick intro, and maybe offer $5 or so off their first service. But always carry a stack of business cards with you, and hand them out at every opportunity!

Another idea: If you are really good at nail art, or have a certain niche which is appealing to the younger crowd, say, high school girls, then try this. Maybe you already know someone like this, but if not, try to locate one, or more of the following: Fashionable, outgoing, and popular girls (cheerleaders, for example) with a LOT of friends. Girls who are truly interested in all things girly -like getting their nails done, namely! And get that girl to come in for a free full set. Yes, totally free. Make sure that you do a top notch full set on her - one that is worthy of showing off tho her friends. A half-a** job won't cut it. And make a deal with her. Give her a stack of your business cards, and tell her that for every set number of girls she refers to you - it could be for every two, or three referrals, or whatever number that she makes to you - girls who make an appointment, keep the appointment, AND book another appointment with you at the time of the first service, then that first girl will continue to receive fills (or whatever service you agree on) from you, totally free of charge. Of course, this can't go on forever, so just set a time limit of maybe six months, or a year. Its up to you. But do you get the gist of it? A popular high school girl, getting top quality, and fashionable nails done for her - by you, who is really happy with your work, WILL spread the word very quickly to her friends, especially if she has an incentive to do so, such as free nail services! And then, take it one step further, and give that girls friends/referrals who come to you $5 off their next service for every one of THEIR friends that THEY refer to you. And so on. Get the idea? Its a chain reaction, and IF you do it right, you will have a steady flow of clients in no time at all. I know of a couple of nail techs who have done this, and it worked out VERY well for them. Its a good, honest way to get new clients.

Whatever you choose to do, just be creative with your ideas, and follow through with them. Just don't expect too much, too soon. It doesn't work that way, unfortunately :-(

Pass out flyers with some kind of special and advertise a grand opening party. Showcase some designs. Have music and appetizers. Give away a little gift to those who come. Make it kind of a girls day. Even better what about a slumber party theme.
